Your ads report and your SEO report both take credit when people search your business name. The brand credit check shows what's actually growing: take out every search with your name in it, and look at what's left. That's mostly new people finding you.
Harry uses SEO Gets for this. It's free, and the branded and non-branded split is on the free plan. Here's the setup, then the check.

- What to look for
Stage 1 of 3
Sign up and connect Search Console
There's no separate email or password. You sign in with Google, and SEO Gets pulls in every Search Console property that account can see.
- 1Go to app.seogets.com and click “Sign in with your Google account”.The sign-in page is app.seogets.com/signin. If nothing happens, check your browser hasn't blocked the Google sign-in pop-up.
- 2Pick the Google account that has access to your Search Console.Sign in with a different account and your site won't show up.
- 3Approve the access request. It's read-only: SEO Gets can see your data but can't change anything in your Google properties. You can remove its access any time from your Google Account settings.
- 4Open your site from the Master Dashboard. You land on the Master Dashboard with every site your account can see. Click yours to open its Performance Report. Site missing? Check you used the right Google account, then add another one under Settings, then My Google Accounts.
Stage 2 of 3
Tell SEO Gets your business name
The check only works if SEO Gets knows which searches are about you. Until you add your brand terms, the branded filter stays switched off.
- 5Open your site's Settings tab and find Branded Keywords. The first time you sign in, SEO Gets runs an AI setup that may already have added some for you. Check them either way.
- 6Add every way people search for your name.Your business name with and without spaces, your domain, product names and common misspellings. You can paste them in one go as a comma-separated list with no spaces after the commas, like SEO Gets' own example:
seogets,seo gets,seo-gets,seogets.com
- 7Check it caught the right searches.Click Filter, then under Branded Queries choose Only Branded Queries, and look at the Queries report. A term matches any search that contains it, so a short or common-word name can catch too much. If searches that aren't about you have crept in, tighten your terms. If obvious brand searches are missing, add more.
Stage 3 of 3
Run the brand credit check
Now split your clicks in two, and judge your SEO on the half that isn't your name.
- 8Clear your filters and open the Branded vs Non-Branded Clicks report.Pick it from the dashboard view selector. It shows your branded clicks as a share of all your clicks.
- 9Now look at what's left.Click Filter, then under Branded Queries choose Only Non-Branded Queries. Every chart on the dashboard switches to searches that don't include your name.
- 10Compare it with an earlier period.Use the date range at the top of the report. The free plan keeps 16 months of data, so you can line this year up against the same months last year.
What to look for
- Your branded share. A high share means most of your Google clicks come from people who already know your name. Those clicks are worth having, but they're the ones every report wants credit for.
- Non-branded clicks over time. That's mostly new people finding you, and it's the number Harry wants to see growing.
- Branded clicks rising too. That can be real now. If your SEO is working, AI recommends you more and people type your name into Google. You just can't see where they first heard of you, which is why non-branded is the fairer test.
- The non-branded searches themselves. These are people searching for what you do, not who you are, so they show you which topics are bringing in new people.
Then, in your next SEO report, ask for branded and non-branded split out, and judge it on what's left.
Optional: add GA4 (paid plan)
In your site's Settings, scroll to Data Source, and under Google Analytics 4 click Select GA4 Property. SEO Gets then shows your GA4 data filtered to organic search and AI sources such as chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai. GA4 data isn't on the free plan.
